come from the heart
Posted: March 4, 2014 Filed under: Music, Spirituality 1 CommentI wrote recently about how my spiritual director gave me permission to sing and told me that the very fact that I was singing meant that I could carry a tune. I wrote that I had my doubts, but that I was taking small steps in that direction. My friend Tahoe Mom reminded me to “sing as if nobody is listening”. That of course brings to mind the Kathy Mattea, song:
You’ve got to sing like you don’t need the money
Love like you’ll never get hurt
You’ve got to dance like nobody’s watchin’
It’s gotta come from the heart if you want it to work.
It had been ages since I had thought of that song, so I was grateful to Tahoe Mom for the reminder. This is, after all, a great philosophy for life. Not only singing like you don’t need the money (or as if nobody is listening), but the idea that it’s got to come from the heart.
That’s important and so easy to forget amidst the busy-ness of daily life.
You’ll need to go to YouTube to watch this, but I wanted to share the Kathy Mattea original with you.
